Trunk or Treat: Tailgating Meets Trick-or-Treating
Do you miss the Halloween spirit? Well, you are in luck because Trunk or Treat is a trick-or-treating event in a parking lot where you can decorate your car and hand out candy. As a college student, I miss having the trick-or-treating experience and giving out candy. This is the perfect opportunity to decorate your car and give out candy. Auburn has a lot of opportunities for this, especially at local schools. My sorority told us to sign up for volunteer hours, but it was so fun that I would do it anytime. Here are some ideas to get you started!
Get Ready to Roll
Take inspiration from Auburn tradition and decorate your car with any and everything Auburn! As an ode to rolling Toomers, you can drape the car in toilet paper and dress up as a mummy. You can also do a tailgate theme and make the trunk the end zone, decorating it with footballs, game-day shakers, and pennant flags. Costume ideas could be referees or wear jerseys. I know I have so much Auburn paraphernalia that would complete the look.
Candy Meets Cruising
Coming up with a costume and car theme is easy and fun! One idea could be an ocean theme: a water theme for the trunk decorated with balloons, streamers, and anything blue to make it look like the ocean. You could give away bubbles, lifesavers, and Swedish fish to stick to the theme. Costumes could be anything from sharks, lifeguards, fishermen, or pirates! This is just one example of a costume and car theme, but there are so many ways to be creative. Take inspiration from your favorite movies, books, and celebrities to come up with a fun theme.
Haunted House? Haunted Car!
A classic Halloween theme never fails. Plastic tablecloths are great for covering the bottom of the trunk. You can also hang fake spiderwebs and streamers from the tailgate. You can play spooky music from your car to take it to another level. Last year, Dollar General had many decoration options that were very cheap. Check out Walmart in their seasonal decorations aisle! This is a great decoration choice for any costume as well.
Tips and Tricks for a Boo-tiful Trunk
Decorating a car for Trunk or Treat is an excellent way to return to the Halloween we knew as kids. It is a time to be creative and bring your favorite memories and fun ideas. Check out for any Auburn events to partake in because it is so worth it!
